In photoshop, masking is a great way to get rid of or hide layers and objects instead of just using the eraser tool on an object, which you might need later.

First you select the background behind your objects, then do Command+Shift+I to switch to your objects.

Then apply a mask and then you would put the other layers and colors to your picture.

Add a mask

I found this from this website - http://buildinternet.com/2009/03/quick-tip-use-layer-masks-to-erase-in-photoshop/

Another great tool in photoshop is the eraser. The eraser helps you get rid of mistakes and fix small color outlines that you don't need or want. The quick way to access it is to press E, or you can find the button here -

The best way to use this tool is for small mistakes, not like getting rid of a whole picture.

The rectangle tool is also yet another very helpful tool in photoshop. This enables you to select anything in that shape, delete it, change it's color or simply cut it out and move it. You can click on it to select it, or press U. The button looks like this -

This is used constantly to create images and edit them too. A great website on the rectangle tool can be found here.

Another useful tool in photoshop is the pen tool.

Using this tool, you can draw perfectly strait lines. To find this tool, you can find it on the toolbar, or press p to snap to it. There are more than just the default pen tool, and the other tools are very useful too.

Using these tools will help your design look cleaner. An informational site I found was -http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WSfd1234e1c4b69f30ea53e41001031ab64-73a0a.html

A very useful tool in DreamWeaver is the split view. Using this, the designer can work with their code and see what the code is doing. The button looks like this -

When the user clicks this, the screen turns to this view, and their able to work on both code and basic divs -

A useful site for information on this tool is http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/using/WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7fb7a.html

Wiki Entry #7 -

The template feature in Dreamweaver helps a web designer keep control of a main layout on their page, and just use the template instead of making the same boxes and features over and over. When you are done with your home page, go to file, and save it as a template, like below -

A useful site about templates is http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dreamweaver_custom_templates.html

Wiki Entry #8 -

The table tool is a very useful tool when creating a site. It helps the designer keep their information in a clean-cut area. The table tool could be used as an actual table or the boarders could be deleted and then used just as a way to keep information together cleanly. The table tool can be used here -

And when opened looks like this -

A useful link for tables is - http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/using/WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7da3a.html#WScbb6b82af5544594822510a94ae8d65-7d9fa

Wiki Entry #9 -

Spry's are a useful tool when creating a website. They add the ability to use a drop down menu which can give the user more interactivity on the page. Spry's can be found here -

When clicked, the menu looks like this -

And this is what it looks like on a page -

A helpful link for spry's is - http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/spry.html

Wiki Entry #10 -

When creating a site, templates are often used to help make it easier to transfer files to files without having to re-create everything. Sometimes these templates can be taken offline, from other designers, so they can work from different places with ease. To locate these files, go to the files tab.

Then click manage sites, which will bring you to this popup screen:

Normally you wouldn't have a site there, but I already do. You would then click new site, which brings you to this screen, where you would set up the side details for your site.

You then would save it and would continue to the dreamweaver home screen, where you would go here, select your file, go to remote server, and click the down arrow.

1.

2.

3.

Then switch back to local view, then open the folder (hopefully) named templates and open your template page.

The multiscreen view in dreamweaver is very useful for designers who are creating a site for many platforms. They can switch their site into the size of a tablet or iPhone and see how the site is affected by the change. If used correctly, the designers site should look relatively the same across the platforms. The button for this option looks like this -

A helpful link for this is - http://help.adobe.com/en_US/dreamweaver/cs/using/WS5262178513756206-2a84b2e112a5608de1b-8000.html

Entry #1: Masking is a very useful tool especially when designing a site. Your image does not seem to be loading, be sure not to copy and paste images onto your page but rather insert them from the "images and files" panel. Also, when providing directions format them in a list so they are easier to read.

You need to stay on top of completing your entries. You are not allowed to receive late credit for entries unless you were absent from class that day. The time I provide you to enter your posts in class should only be used for completing your entries.

Post #5: 3/4. All required elements are provided but try to be more detailed in explaining the tool. Provide to me in your own words when I would use the tool and a visual example of using the tool.

Post #6: 3/4. All required elements are provided but please be sure to post on skills that will be useful in the future. This is a very basic post on a topic you learned about in Intro. Web Design.

Post #9, 10 & 11: 4/4. All required elements are provided and each post is very helpful pertaining to Dreamweaver. Although, try to post about information which you discovered on your own and not necessarily during class time. Ultimately these are good notes to have when creating a site in the future.
